On January 11, the Western National Roundup 4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest was held during this year’s National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo. Home to one of several national-level livestock judging contests for youth, the Western National Roundup is a yearly event that is home to 17 regional and national-level 4-H contests.
This year, Florida 4-H was represented by a team from Union County 4-H, with team members Madison Bennett, Kendal Stalnaker, Bailee Sheppard and Hunter Williams, with coach Jason Stalnaker, who qualified for the contest as your reserve state champion team from last year’s state contest.
Together, as a team, they placed seventh in the swine division, and sixteenth overall. Individually, Madison Bennett was the highest scoring individual on the team, placing thirty-third overall, with 25 teams and 98 contestants competing in this year’s contest.
Congratulations to this team on all of their accomplishments on the state and national levels, and best of luck to them this season and in their future judging endeavors.
Livestock judging is an event designed to test the evaluation and decision making skills of students through evaluating market and breeding beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats as well as the defense of their placings via oral reasons.
