On January 11-12, the Western National Roundup hosted this year’s National Western Roundup Public Speaking Contest in Denver.
Serving as host to the national-level contest for prepared and impromptu public speaking in 4-H, the Western National Roundup provides a place for youth to compete nationally while encouraging teamwork and self-confidence, and while focusing on the 4-H mission mandates: STEM, healthy living and citizenship.
This year, Florida 4-H was represented by your current state champion who was named at 4-H University in the summer of 2019, Kaitlin McCord from Sarasota County 4-H.
With her speech, McCord placed eleventh in the nation. She is a member of the Blazers 4-H Club of Sarasota.
The 4-H Public Speaking Contest requires youth to compose and deliver an original speech in five to seven minutes over a topic relative to today’s youth to a panel of judges.
Congratulations to this young lady on making it to the national level, and best of luck to her in the future in 4-H and beyond.
Sara Langston from Sumter County 4-H and Nathan Vitale from Orange County 4-H also qualified for this contest by placing in the top three in the state in the 2019 Florida 4-H Public Speaking Contest, but did not compete.
