Cattle are most likely the most popular species of livestock shown in Florida, as many young people who get their start early make it their goal to work their way up in Florida's youth livestock programs, from smaller animals up to the privilege of showing a heifer or steer at their county fair and beyond.
Commercially, beef production in Florida is prevalent throughout the state, from the Panhandle, to North, Central and South Florida. Some of the most popular breeds found in Florida include Angus, Brahman, Limousin and Simmental. Other purebreds, such as Charolais, Brangus, Zebu, Maine-Anjou and Santa Gertrudis, are also common, as well as many crossbreds used in commercial cattle production. Today, receipts from cattle and calf sales in Florida total over 546 million USD, according to the Florida Beef Council.
Cattle shows in Florida commonly contain classes for heifers, bulls and/or market steers, along with youth (and sometimes for adults, too) showmanship. Some shows also offer classes for "cow/calf pairs" (a cow shown with a calf at its site) and prospect steers (market animals under a certain weight at the show) as well. Shows for cattle in Florida are sponsored by FFA chapters, 4-H groups, junior cattlemen's associations, cattle companies and breed associations. Some last just one day, with check in, show and release on the same day, while others are held during fairs, festivals and other events that require animals and exhibitors to stay multiple days.
Listed on this page are cattle shows open to all youth in Florida, unless otherwise stated, and are non-terminal (all animals return to the farm of the exhibitor after the show) and contain divisions for heifers and/or bulls and/or steers, depending upon the show. Only shows located in Florida are listed here, and are broken into two pages for Fall Cattle Shows, listed on this page, and another page for Spring Cattle Shows in the state.
