Cattle are most likely the most popular species of livestock shown in Florida, as many young people who get their start early make it their goal to work their way up in Florida's youth livestock programs, from smaller animals up to the privilege of showing a heifer or steer at their county fair and beyong.
Commercially, beef production in Florida is very prevalent throughout the state, from the Panhandle to North, Central and South Florida. Many breeds of cattle are found here in Florida, from popular breeds such as Angus and Brahman, crossbreds used for commercial cattle production, heritage breeds many are working to preserve, and other common purebreds such as Simmental, Shorthorn, Charolais and others. Today, receipts from cattle and calf sales in Florida total over 546 million USD, according to the Florida Beef Council.
Cattle shows in Florida commonly contain classes for breeding heifers, bulls and/or market steers. Often, cows with calves ("cow calf pairs") and prospect steers (market steers that are not yet fully grown) may also be shown. Shows for cattle in Florida are sponsored by fairs, agricultural organizations, cattle companies, farms, Junior Cattlemen's Associations and state breed associations. Some last just one day - with check in, the show and release on the same day - while others are held during fairs, festivals and other events that require animals and exhibitors to stay multiple days.
Listed on this page are cattle shows open to all youth in Florida, unless otherwise stated, and are non-terminal (all animals return to the farm of the exhibitor after the show) and contain divisions for heifers and/or bulls and/or steers, depending upon the show. Only shows located in Florida are listed here, and are broken into two pages for Fall Cattle Shows and Spring Cattle Shows, listed here on this page.
