
On Tuesday, October 16, the American Royal Association hosted the 2018 National 4-H Meats Judging Contest by the American Meat Science Association in Kansas City, Mo.
Florida 4-H was represented by your current state champion team from Orange County 4-H, that included Bailey Lavender, Lorelei Bachmann, Kylie Ward and Katie Hollinger, along with coach Suzanne Archer.
As a team, they placed fourth in beef judging, fourth in retail cut judging, fifth in total judging, fifth in reasons and as the seventh place team overall.
Individually, Lavender placed as the high individual for total judging and as the high individual for reasons, fourth in beef judging, third in pork judging, fourth in retail cut judging, and as the eight high individual overall in the contest, with 12 teams and 45 individuals competing in this year’s contest.
Congratulations to this amazing team on a great run and to Orange County on yet another outstanding team on the state and national level. Meats judging is an event designed to test evaluation and selection skills of beef, pork and lamb wholesale cuts and carcasses, along with retail meat identification and defense of placings via oral reasons.
