On Thursday, October 25, the American Royal Association hosted the American Royal 4-H and FFA Livestock Judging Contest during their annual event in Kansas City, Mo.
Florida 4-H was represented by your third place team from last year’s state contest, Putnam County 4-H, and their team included Emily Lands, Abby Whittington, Jarrett Kelley and Clayton Brauman, with coach Jerry Mullins.
As a team, they placed eighth in the subdivision for sheep and goats, eighth in the swine subdivision, eighth in the beef subdivision, seventh in reasons and eighth overall.
Individually, Lands placed tenth in sheep and goats, and was the highest scoring individual on the team, placing twelfth overall, with 17 teams and 66 individuals competing in this year’s contest.

The University of Florida Livestock Judging Team also competed in the collegiate division.
Livestock judging is an event designed to test the evaluation and decision making skills of students through evaluating market and breeding beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats as well as the defense of their placings via oral reasons.
