On Saturday, January 12, the Western National Roundup 4-H/FFA Meat Judging Contest was held during this year’s National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo. One of two national-level meats judging contests for youth, the Western National Roundup is a yearly event that is home to 17 regional and national-level 4-H contests.
This year, Florida 4-H was represented by a team from Suwannee County 4-H, with team members Laura Cumbess, Abigail Corbin, Gabriel Cumbess and Madison Crain, with coaches Christian Rodriguez and Derby Sale, who competed as your third place team in the state from last year’s state contest, replacing Okeechobee County 4-H, who were your reserve state champions.
Together, as a team, they placed third in the subdivision for placings and sixth overall. Individually, Laura Cumbess placed second and Abigail Corbin placed ninth in the subdivision for placings. Laura Cumbess was also your high scoring individual on the team, placing sixteenth individually, with eight teams and 30 individuals competing in this year’s contest.
Congratulations to this team on all of their accomplishments on the state and national levels, and best of luck to them this season and in their future judging endeavors.
