On Saturday, October 19, the Clinton Central FFA Chapter hosted the annual Clinton Central Stockman Livestock Judging Contest at Clinton Central Junior-Senior High School in Michigantown, Ind.
Though not hosted at a national livestock show or convention, this contest is attended by teams from around the nation to prepare for upcoming national contests and state-level events.
This year, Florida 4-H was represented by two teams.
Putnam County 4-H, your current state champion team, was represented by Dathan Guthrie, Clayton Brauman, Emily Lands and Jarrett Kelley. (Pictured Left)
As a team, they placed third in swine, sixth in reasons, seventh in beef cattle, ninth in sheep, and sixth overall.
Individually, Guthrie placed seventh in swine, and was the highest scoring individual on the team, placing seventeenth overall. Their team is coached by Jerry Mullins.
Jackson County 4-H, who placed fifth in last year’s state contest, was represented by Hayden Warden, Taylor Yoder, Benjamin Roach and Dylan Ziglar. (Pictured Right)
As a team, they placed eleventh in beef and twelfth overall. Warden was the highest scoring individual on the team, placing forty-fourth overall. The team is coached by Stacey Warden.
A total of 13 teams and 64 individuals competed in the National 4-H division of the contest.
Congratulations to these teams on their successes, and best of luck to the Putnam County team as they advance to the national 4-H event in November.
Livestock judging is an event designed to test the evaluation and decision making skills of students through evaluating market and breeding beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats as well as the defense of their placings via oral reasons.
