On Thursday, October 24, the American Royal Association hosted this year’s American Royal 4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest in Kansas City, Mo., open to one 4-H and one FFA team per state.
Florida 4-H was represented this year by your third place state winners that were named back in the spring, Volusia County 4-H, with team members Cheyann Wilkins, Tyler Watson, Caitlin Wise and Megan Christopher.
As a team, they placed sixth in sheep and goats, eleventh in swine and as the eleventh place team overall.
Individually, Wilkins was tenth in sheep and goats, and sixteenth overall, and Watson was eighteenth in sheep and goats, with 18 teams and 69 individuals competing in this year’s contest. They are coached by Lori Smith.
Livestock judging is an event designed to test the evaluation and decision making skills of students through evaluating market and breeding beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats as well as the defense of their placings via oral reasons.
