From November 8 – 10, this year’s Eastern National 4-H Horse Round-Up was held at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Ky. with Florida being represented in five of the six educational contests offered.
“The Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup (ENRU) provides a place for youth to compete nationally while encouraging teamwork and self-confidence, and while focusing on the 4-H Mission mandates,” notes the event’s website, through hosting the national contests for several horse events.
Florida 4-H was represented in five of the six contests, by your state champion teams and individuals.
In the Individual Presentation Contest, Amelia McKenzie from Indian River County 4-H (left photo) competed with her presentation titled “Laminitis: What to Watch for and How to Treat It” and earned seventh place in the nation as your current state champion.
Within the Horse Judging Contest, your current state champion team from Brevard County 4-H (middle photo; from state contest) competed, with team members Sophie Moutsatsos, Hannah Cyrus, Arianna Lockman and Mary Rehbein.
As a team, they placed second overall in the performance division, fourth in reasons and fourth overall in the nation. Individually, Moutsatsos placed first overall in the performance division, fifth in reasons and third overall, and Cyrus placed tenth in reasons and seventh overall.
In the Horse Public Speaking Contest, Rian Rose from Hernando County 4-H (right photo; from state contest) competed with her speech titled “Cloning Horses,” as your current state champion.
For the Hippology Contest, your current state champion team from Lake County 4-H (not pictured) competed, with team members Dominique Palka, Dagan Daniels and Iris Jackson.
As a team, they placed eighth in the team problem. Individually, Palka also placed seventh in the judging phase.
Finally, in the Horse Quiz Bowl, your current state champion team, also from Lake County 4-H (not pictured) competed, with team members Alaila Champion, Amarige Champion, Payton Allen and Erin Tharp. They placed tenth in the nation as a team.
