On Tuesday, November 12, the 2019 National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest was held during this year’s North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Ky.
This contest annually serves as the culmination of 4-H judging careers for youth who have been recognized as winners on the state level, often both individually and as a team.
This year, Florida 4-H was represented by your state champion team that was named back in the spring, Putnam County 4-H, with team members Emily Lands, Clayton Brauman and Dathan Guthrie.
As a team, they placed twentieth overall, with Lands placing ninth in sheep and goats, in the top 50 for swine and twenty-ninth overall as the highest scoring individual on the team, with 30 teams and 108 individuals competing in this year’s contest. They are coached by Jerry Mullins.
Livestock judging is an event designed to test the evaluation and decision making skills of youth through evaluating market and breeding beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats as well as the defense of their placings via oral reasons.
