Jackson County 4-H
On Wednesday, March 11, the Southeastern Livestock Exposition hosted their annual Youth and Collegiate Livestock Judging Contest at the Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery, Ala. where youth from three Florida counties participated.
Florida 4-H was represented by two counties, Jackson and Union.
In the junior division, a team from Jackson County 4-H made up of Adly Caraway, Samuel Roach, Ryleigh Yoder, Reagan Roach, Valerie Yoder and Sam Basford competed. Together, they placed second in swine, third in beef and questions, fourth in sheep and goats, and fourth overall.
Individually, Adly Caraway placed sixth in beef and was the highest scoring individual on the team, Samuel Roach placed third in swine, Ryleigh Yoder placed fifth in questions and Reagan Roach placed fifth in sheep and goats.
In the senior division, teams from Union County 4-H and Jackson County 4-H participated, with Union’s team made up of Sierra Graham, Hunter Williams, Kendal Stalnaker and Tatum Howard, and Jackson’s made up of Taylor Yoder, Whitnie Yoder, Lila Caraway, Syler Griffin, Hayden Warden, Benjamin Roach, Bud Basford, Nathan Ziglar and Dylan Ziglar.

Individually, Sierra Graham was second in questions, third in swine, fifth in beef, ninth in reasons and was the fourth highest scoring individual overall, Hunter Williams was third in questions, sixth in beef, tenth in swine and eleventh overall, and Kendal Stalnaker was twelfth in reasons.

Individually, Taylor Yoder was fourth in sheep and goats, eighth in swine and the tenth high individual overall, Lila Caraway was fifth in swine, sixth in questions and fourteenth in sheep and goats, and Whitnie Yoder was tenth in sheep and goats.
Florida FFA was represented by youth from Jackson and Calhoun counties.
Sneads FFA from Jackson County competed, with a team made up of Meg Alexander, Hunter Rhames, Marissa Jackson and Dylan Jackson.
As a team, they placed ninth in swine and twelfth overall. Individually, Dylan Jackson was twelfth in swine, and Meg Alexander was the highest scoring individual on the team.
From Calhoun County, Anslie Yoder competed as an individual, and placed fifth in questions, twelfth in sheep and goats, fourteenth in beef, and twelfth overall.
Congratulations to each of these teams on their many accomplishments at this contest and beyond, and best of luck to them in preparing for the state contests when they are rescheduled.
Livestock judging is an event designed to test the evaluation and decision making skills of students through evaluating market and breeding beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats as well as the defense of their placings via oral reasons.
