ABOUT THE SERIES
By popular demand for additional events, feedback received from the first online judging contest we hosted, and the desire to give youth more opportunities to practice their skills, and even with no travel necessary, the Online Jackpot Judging Series was born during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first edition was created in 2020 after the postponement/cancellation of the majority of the state contests from COVID-19 concerns. Contests that were hosted include meats judging, poultry judging, livestock skillathon, veterinary science and a jackpot livestock judging contest. Check out lists of the winners at the bottom of this page.
For the second edition in the 2020-2021 season, the series will run throughout the season and host poultry judging and meats judging contests in the fall/winter, and livestock skillathon and veterinary science contests in the spring.
Registration for each event will open approximately one week in advance with a form and registration fee, paid online. All monies collected go towards prizes, ribbons and postage to mail awards to the winners (as an independent organization, First Place Florida receives no outside funding to conduct these events), and we are currently exploring options of online tools that will be self-contained with a single link needed to complete the event, rather than multiple emails and files to make for a better experience.
Winners will be announced as soon as possible after each event, and full results/scores will also be provided. The contest materials/practicums will also be yours to keep after the event for future practice!
New this season, the series will be open to in-state youth ONLY - as in Florida residents or members of a Florida-based organization. If there is enough interest in a specific event, an out-of-state division may be added later on. Each contest will have junior and senior divisions, but all contestants will evaluate the same classes. Classes and specimens will be selected from past national-caliber events for the best practice possible.
More information about these events will be posted here and announced via social media and our newsletter as soon as it is available.
