Sheep probably are not the first animals that one would think would fill Florida's pastures and show barns, due to our state's high temperatures and extreme humidity near year-round, but the numbers of meat producing sheep and those raised for show are very large across the state.

Florida's sheep industry is unique - with high numbers of traditional wool breeds, along with large numbers of haired sheep used for meat and lamb production, and other exotic breeds used as show animals. The 2017 USDA Census of Agriculture reported that Florida was home to over 24,000 sheep, and over 1,500 farms that raise them according to data collected. The species is also a popular choice for youth livestock projects, and are shown around the state at county fairs, jackpot shows and the Florida State Fair, and also by Florida youth at national-level shows each year.

Listed on this page are sheep shows open to all youth in Florida, unless otherwise stated, and are non-terminal (all animals return to the farm of the exhibitor after the show) and contain divisions for breeding ewes and/or market lambs and/or rams, depending upon the show. Only shows located in Florida are listed here.

For more information about regional or national level shows for your breed, check out its respective association our our Livestock Organizations page.
